Graham, if the author is dealing directly with the printer, why are you complaining? That's exactly what you recommend that an author do. You also say never to leave your book in the hands of any POD publisher. I guess that explains why you don't have the file. It doesn't explain why the author doesn't or why your well-respected and always well-paid sub-contractor would not.

You contradict yourself even here. Your business practises seem a little amateur-city. I think you were just out of your league. How else can you explain having had 30 million American dollars in your account in California at one time (as you told me) and having no money now?

Somebody has to maintain and administer a database of information for every book published: its title, the name of the author, the ISBN number, its retail price, any commissions to be offered to retailers, and of course personal contact details for the author including the physical address, e-mail and bank account details for the payment of royalties. All of these pieces of information need to be maintained throughout the lifetime of the book whether any copies are sold or not.

If you are a print on demand book publisher working with the printer Lightning Source, you get your own account with your own log in details. But you can only use your own ISBN prefix numbers. Immediately your authors are disadvantaged as they cannot have ISBN numbers in their own names. This deficiency has been covered in our Newsletters before. But there is another problem with the Lightning Source system: it only permits the publisher to enter one rate of book retailers’ commission for all books on the publisher’s account, and as a consequence removes a fundamental choice from the author.

Once again, the author is totally dependant on the management ability and business strength of the print on demand book publisher, who is most unlikely to have enough income from the book to meet those administration costs.

Lightning Source issue one statement per month to the publisher showing sales from the UK and from the US for all of that publisher’s authors. There are entries for all the following column headings:

ISBN TITLE AUTHORS (s) LIST PRICE DISCOUNT WHOLESALE PRICE QUANTITY NET SALES PRINT CHARGE SETUP RECOVERY OTHER NET PUBLISHERS COMPENSATION REMAINING RECOVERY
Naturally, after a book is published, each author is interested in how many books have been sold and what royalties have come in. The author relies upon the print on demand book publisher accurately transcribing and calculating the information, and has to suffer a further deduction from the royalties to pay for this extra administrative step (plus a profit element)!

What are the options for Lightning Source and their publisher? In order to keep the author up to date on sales, the publisher could photocopy the entire monthly statement from Lightning Source and send it to each author, somehow blanking out records for all but the intended recipient. This would be subject to a high degree of error, and consequent violation of UK data protection rights for all the other authors. They could cut the statement into pieces and try to mail each piece to the right author. Or they could transcribe the information onto their own statement system – again opening up possibilities of error, no matter how carefully the work is done.

The crunch is really whether or not any of these methods are viable: with rare exceptions, there would simply not be enough royalty payments coming in for the print on demand book publisher to pay for this administration process. It raises considerably the break even sales point for an author’s book.

Why not simply cut out this administrative step? Why not record ISBN numbers in the authors’ names and allow authors to open up accounts with Lightning Source in their own right? Not only would authors then receive their own statement direct from Lightning Source, the author would also have the right to amend any details that relate to their book. Most importantly – royalties and information would come to the author without administrative deductions or delays.

In my last Newsletter I promised to submit this text to Lightning Source for their input before publication. I thought this a great idea and only fair. Unfortunately it appears every executive of Lightning Source that is relevant here has blocked my e-mail address! Such behaviour puts me in mind of the story of the ostrich with its head in the sand.

Scamfraudalert, is a discussion board covering varied topics, such as financial fraud, consumer issues and alleged internet scams and book and publishing reviews. It is supposedly a place where victims of scam or frauds can alert the public. The board is owned by an individual who goes by the online alias scrub and scambuster. He is also a moderator at scam.com . There have been complaints of alleged copyright violation as the owner of scamfraudalert has not obtained written permission to repost content he has gathered from the internet in it’s full entirety. Furthermore the website owner infringes on the personal privacy of website owners by posting their email, private information such as name, home address, phone number and other information he obtains from a whois domain lookup, therefore otherwise supporting the transmission by e-mail, telephone, of mass, unsolicited, commercial advertising and solicitation- known to you as spam.

It is reasonable to assume that the website is administrated by an individual who has not much experience and hasn’t bother to do much research about the companies that he is reporting. We further question the accuracy of some of the information that is being provided by this website as we believe it to be inaccurate and certainly misleading. Rose doesn't have enough to do on her websites so she spends much of time on other websites posting slander and defamation probably more often than she brushes her teeth. If her websites were busy or worthwhile she would be getting jiggy there rather than everywhere else. Rose sometimes jumps the gun, comes across as a not your sharpest tool in the garage and is very defensive.

My suggestion is if you come across this lady or any site or business she represents, keep your distance as she will slander your business with no proof of any wrong doing. Stab in your back a-lacy-lack-lack.

Her motivation for these posts is simply to promote herself. That's right kiddies - She dumps on others (who she has never hired) to promote herself. Now if this isn't perfect for RipoffReport.com I have know idea what would be perfect.

Be Careful of Invision-Graphics Web Site Design Company Info as they don't offer much information about who they are on their website. They are very very vague and don't offer a physical address - The owners post slanderous posts on forums to hurt their competitors. Be careful with these folks after all they are from Canada.

I am the Wife of the Company Reported


I'm Rose DesRochers the founder of Todays-Woman Inc. My husband owns the business Invision-Graphics.

Not only is this report slanderous it is an insult to all Canadians. There is no solid evidence here and you have not really reported anything except the business physical address is not on site. However he does provide an email address and name.

On the same complaint someone named Julie has filed no solid complaint about my business except cheap shops at my appearance.

This complaint is not legit and will not be looked as legit. I suggest anyone reading it contact me or my husband Shawn DesRochers.

Many people can speak of our integrity and will be glad to do so.

I am guessing this complaint was filed by a member of writersweekly.com or an angry Publish America author. Todays-Woman.net has a solid one year reputation and 354 registered members and 22 members still with many well known established writers submitting content. In honesty we are a community for men and women over 18, where writers/poets/columnists meet and exchange ideas, contest, rate and review and help each other succeed in the writing industry.

Todays-Woman enables you to showcase your work with bios, pictures, samples and contact info. We also have an internet arcade with 130 games , we have member book advertising , awarded demerit points , e-cards , gallery , writing lessons , poetry scam warnings , an active forum , journal(blog) , Dictionary of writing terms , Story board/poetry board. Dull rating and commenting system plus members can nominate another members work.

We have provided this service for one full year free. .

You can also report an offending comment or poem/story. Writers are notified when they have received comments. We have a weekly newsletter, writer of the month, writer of the year and full member's stats for reviews.

We also send out prices such as journals, free books, writing sets, gifts members donate (cd etc).

The list goes on and on as far as features go.

We also a dollar a month received from donations to online charities or to help children who have been stricken by a disease such as Cancer, Heart disease etc

Todays-Woman recently sent flowers to one of our members after she underwent surgery to remove Cancer.

I feel that this report could have only been file from writersweekly.com as that was the only place I have my husband business advertised in my signature tag.


My husband has nothing to do with this and I feel that this report was not filed fairly and is just someone playing games as they have done so on the writersweekly.com forum.

Shawn DesRochers has done many services online for free, including making banners for kid's camps and recently design the banner for a little girl stricken by Cancer. As well as designing the entire Todays-Woman site that was estimated at over ten thousand dollars to design. He did this all free so writers would have a place to go to. He has also spent many hours online helping and teaching new computer users.

He has also worked for such companies like msn, roadrunner, Dell, Net Reach.

In closing I will say gossip is an ugly troll who hides under a bridge just waiting for a victim. If you do not feed the troll he goes away.

My husband has just received another email from Jeff Paris despite we have requested he not contact us. I see nothing that requests that Jeff Paris end things privately, quite the contrary and you will see this when you read the emails sent from him to me.

I have know Jeff Paris for quite some time and was very impressed with his business PoetryScams.com and Literacy Escape until a couple months ago when everything changed my outlook about him and how dishonest he operates his businesses.

He lists business on his site as scams, or run by immortal webmasters or fraudulent business if you don't provide a link to him or if you upset him.

I find it quite strange that he would compare himself to rip off report. He likes to run in the circle of the big guys and blames his harassment behind Borderline Personality Disorder and Adult Autism. One must take responsibility for their actions.

He sends abusing emails etc, I have an entire inbox of emails and can provide full header that comes from his IP address to both my husband and I.

He black listed my website Todays-Woman Inc on his poetry scams for no reason. Our website is not a scam. We are a free online community with a solid one year reputation. Our site is ran solely on donations and we make no profit from a free community that we run.

He says that he provides information for scams he has investigated, yet has no solid evidence backing this that todays-woman.net is a scam.

This report I have filed is not to get back at Jeff Paris it is about his dishonesty as a website / business owner and his ongoing harassment of other website owners.

The administrator of literacy escape contacted me last month regarding our link to him on todays-woman that he could not find it and it was not accessible by Google bots. I sent him a Google cache of our website showing him Google did pick up his link.

He then apologized to me the link was there, after jumping to conclusion and sending me a previous nasty email. You will still see the Google cache where we were linked to LiteraryEscape.com

Shortly after this he listed on his website PoetryScams.com as bad to do business with. I have gone to Jeff Paris and asked for the situation to be resolved. I have copies of all email communications between he and I. I have logged ip addresses where he has used my feedback form to harass me. I have banned his IP and he has reset it to come through a different IP. He has removed us from his black-list only to put us right back on again.

I think todays-woman reputation and our testimonials will speak for itself and my accomplishments of having my own book published since the opening of todays-woman.
Despite several emails requesting that Jeff Paris end all contact with us he has once again contacted us to send us a copy of his reply to this report like I stated before.

I have all evidence of harassment, dishonesty , libel , slanderous and his trying to sell open source scripts he has Ripped off from the net from sites sorceforge.net this and will provide it to any willing parties that require a screen capture , logs or emails, full header included.

I have stated what I needed to on this I have no more statements at this time.

I would like to hear why you think PoetryScams.Com is a scam. You say things about me as a person, but have never stated a relevant fact about PoetryScams.Com.

You are really upset because I told you that because you broke our link trade agreement I could not link exchange with you anymore. This is a matter of webmaster ettiquete. You were originally blacklisted as a bad link trade partner and the reason you are blacklisted as a dishonest site is because, Rose, you keep posting untrue and meaningless comments and attacking my family and friends.

My wife did go to your website and she posted a very polite and diplomatic message in your forum to try to settle your dispute and you banned the entire island of Iceland in return, just to keep my wife from being nice to you on your site. I read what my wife wrote to you and she even complimented on your website. So please, stop the lying.

PoetryScams.Com is listed on over 5000 websites as an unbiased and honest poetry scam resource and I have had 2 high school students requesting to borrow the site's content for school related work. So, obviously, you are the only one that thinks a site that accepts no money is a scam. The site tells honest information with solid evidence. Tell me what is a scam about that.

Maybe what is a scam is that we just showed a leap of faith and we just made LiteraryEscape.Com a free website a few hours ago, just to prove that we are not in this for money.
