Local Press Releases For Immediate Release 08/09/2005 Contact: Erin May, Public Relations Manager 206.676.4162/503.972.4425 BELLEVUE ADVANCE FEE LOAN SCAM BILKING CONSUMERS NATIONWIDE BBB Issues Warning: TransCredit Financial DuPont, WA – The BBB has recently received numerous complaints from consumers about an advance fee loan scam perpetrated by TransCredit Financial, headquartered in Bellevue, Washington. Victims were contacted by the company after applying for a number of loans. A person calling himself Tomas Chapman promises a $5000 loan from private lenders. Consumers are told to send upwards of $700 to cover the first five payments for the promised loan. After signing paperwork, consumers are told to send the initial payments via Money Gram to various people in Ontario, Canada. They expect to have the check by FedEx the next day. When the check fails to appear, they contact TransCredit and told due to discrepancies in the paperwork, they will need to send another $700. consumers that attempted to cancel the loan process were promised a refund, but never received one. The telephone number has recently stopped working.
