The Ontario Workers' Action Centre has issued the following alert regarding SureJobs: Quote: Workers' Rights Alert (I) The Case of SureJobs Canada The Workers' Action Centre has documented a number of cases involving a company called SureJobs Canada. SureJobs Canada charges workers a fee to find employment opportunities for them and set up job interviews. In all of these cases, workers agreed to pay a sizable fee for SureJobs Canada's services based on SureJobs's Canada promises of quick results in finding employment. However, workers have complained that months later, they have not been provided with the services promised by SureJobs Canada. The job positions they have been sent are very generic and are not in line with their experience. Some of the job positions are not even located in Toronto, or Canada. Under the new Employment Standards Act, this practice of charging workers a fee to find work is not illegal. However, the Workers' Action Centre is concerned that these kind of headhunter companies are taking advantage of workers who are desperate to find work, often new immgrants. In the past, head-hunter services would charge fees to businesses wanting to find qualified employees not to job-seekers directly. Under today's laws, businesses are unfairly profiting from job-seekers who pay fees based on promises of services which do not materialize. We won. The Workers' Action Centre successfully supported workers who paid a fee to SureJobs Canada and are frustrated with their services to get their money back.
