My mother-in-law just received a letter from Metropolitan Sweepstates saying she had just won $200,000. Included was a check for $2985.00. The check was to help to cover fees that were required to be paid in order to get the winnings. The letter was from Nova Scotia Canada. They also gave a Canadian phone number at 403-667-6974. This looks to be a clasic case where they send you a bogus check, hoping you will send them the fees in a couple of days when their check "clears" your bank account, only to be crushed several more days later when you find out the check is bogus, and the bank wants their money back. They called my mother-in-law repeatedly for a couple of weeks, and then sent a snail mail letter, with several English mistakes. They may have gotten her information from a series of sweepstakes and lotteries she entered on the internet. Be warned. |

| I just got the same letter in the mail and a check for 2985.00 and they wanted me to deposit it and then Western Union them the funds back. The number was different it was 403-667-6974. I called bank for funds and the guy never asked me for an account # he just wanted the check #. So I called a regular Citibank and they said no third party info. So I was wondering why Blue Cross would send me a check because I don't have Blue Cross. It turns out they are scamming everyone with this check thing so be careful!: |

We recieved the same letter with the same information and a check for the same amount. We were hopeful but also skeptical! We have never heard of having to pay money upfront for winning a sweepstakes. Truly this is a scam. We have turned everything over to the local law enforcement agency. It is ashamed that there are these kinds of people that pray on the misfortunes of others. |

I called my state's attorney generals office to find out they won't do anything about it. They said I could fax them the letter so others could be warned. I feel bad for others who don't catch on as fast. |

Bella Trinity 2 days ago Report Abuse Metropolitan Sweepstakes is nothing but a big huge freakin scam! DO NOT Cash The Check they send you! DO however give the check and letter to the FBI's! What is below is what i posted on another question dealing with Metropolitan Sweepstakes. I hope its all helpful to everyone! Listen, Don't cash your checks that you get. My friend did it and thought she was getting money back which she didn't. She filed a report to the FBI and they told her that they will pursue it only if everyone who recieves these checks and letters file as well. Keep those checks and letters and turn them in to the FBI. I recieved a check and letter two days ago. I turned mine in as well. The FBI told me the same thing. So that's two of us. Now all everyone who receives these needs to do the same thing. Let's Nail these people! Anyhoo, Here is information as follows: 1. Bank of Wells Fargo Supposedly: 888-634-5613 Real #: 305-628-9466 2. Metropolitan Sweepstakes Numbers in Order with Names: 403-667-6974 - Brittney Jordan 403-667-6437 - Melissa 403-397-0954 - Robert Jones 403-708-7654 - Rhonda 403-667-2942 - No Name 403-889-7680 - No Name 3. Name and Address of the Supposed Bonds Officer: Charles Williams 1390 Fernwood Drive New Brunswick, Cananda E3A6W4 Apparently the numbers are in Cananda except for the one for the bank. Hope this is helpful to everyone who sees this. |

I was one of the unfortunate ones, I did cash the check and wired the $2985 to this steven williams in winnapeg, monitoba after Melissa( agent for metropolitan sweepstakes) had me thoroughly convinced that I had really won and I called the # on the check and verified funds, and so did my bank. Now, my bank is coming after me to repay the $2985. I didn't see how I could be responsible considering the bank verified funds as well, but apparently this isn't the case. FBI,Police will not help me because this is a Canada issue. This couldn't have happened to me at a worse time. My mother is in critical condition in the hospital and may not make it home. When I really thought I had won, I said to myself that this could be answered prayer. Instead, It's turned out to be a nightmare. If any one could help me with this, please advise. In Christian Love, Angela |
