Category: Canadian Cross-Border Scams to Americans Submitted: 8/2/2006 4:32:25 PM Modified: 8/2/2006 4:32:00 PM British Random Lotto - Coreland Companies - Royal Imperial Fiancial Managment Group ripoff lotto winnings scam Winnipeg Manitoba Company British Random Lotto - Coreland Companies - Royal Imperial Fiancial Managment Group Address: 330 Smith Street Suite 304 Winnipeg Manitoba R3B 2G9 Canada Phone Number: 204-951-3283 Fax: Today I recevied a letter in the mail from British Random lotto, stating that I won 85,500 us dollars, from a yearly drawing held in london, england. Included with this letter was a check for 2,995.90, that was to cover international clearance fees. this seemed very fishy to me for several reasons. Frist reason was that I nevered entered into any lotto. Second if the drawing happeded in England why is this company based in Canada? Also the address on the check was From Coreland Compaies, based out of Californa. So I am sort of curious, so I call the number in the letter, A lady answers in a very professional voice, "Royal Imperial finacial management group" or something simular. And I ask for lisa smith, ( my so called claim agent ) and the lady says "uh yeah I guess that's me". So I ask about the check in the mail, and how I became registered. She tells me that I was registered from an internet company that they are associated with, but couldn't tell me what one. Anyways she tells me to cash the check and send it western union to a different person and address than what is in the letter! Then I am to call the nubmer back when I have sent the money, and in three to four days I will recive a check for 80,199$ ( 85,500 minus 6.2% commission). So I hang up the Phone and laugh, then preceded to rip up the check. Although the lady did seem very professional except for the one slip up, she was beliveable (almost). She had very precise answers for all my questions, that made some sence until you thought about it. This is a very well thought out scam. Raven Sheboygan, Wisconsin U.S.A. |
