Beware of emails sent by this group offering you a "job" from your posting on Monster Job. It's another check cashing fraud. I ALMOST fell for it by depositing their first check into my bank account. I then reconsidered and went to the police station to check with them. DEFINITELY a scam! I didn't withdraw the funds, so I'm not guilty of any crime. Had I withdrawn the funds, I would have been.

Check your mailbox. You could be the target of a consumer scam.

The State Police are investigating an international lottery scam that's made it to our region.

Troopers say a bogus company based in Nigeria is sending letters out to other countries, like Canada.

Then the letters are mailed to people here in the US.

The letters tell people they've won a lottery and are accompanied by a check.

The scammers tell you the money is for taxes on your lottery winnings that you have to pay before you receive the money.

You are suppose to cash the check and wire the money to an overseas account.

Troopers say victims are cashing this counterfeit bad check and sending money.

When the check comes back to the bank, they are left footing the bill. Police say if you get a letter or email that sounds too good to be true, it is.

If you win the lottery, you won't pay taxes on winnings until after receiving the money.

If you receive correspondence from outside of this country, you aren't protected because the US doesn't have treaties will every country protecting your rights.
