Finally - THE FBI SEEMS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM

FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION

Cyber Division, Cyber Crime Section, Internet Crime Complaint Center
July 14, 2005

(U//LES) PRINTING REPRESENTATIVE WORK AT HOME SCHEME
(U//LES) The Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) has been notified of a work at home scheme advertised on an internet employment site requesting applicants for a Printing Representative. The employee will be required to print and send business checks as well as personal checks intended for the businesses employees and clients. (U//LES) A work at home scheme begins with unknown subjects posting help-wanted advertisements at popular Internet job search sites. Respondents throughout the United States, who are very much interested in the prospect of working at home, quickly respond to the on-line advertisement. As part of the application process, the prospective employee is required to complete an employment application, wherein he/she divulges sensitive personal information, such as their date of birth and social security number.(U//LES) Typically, this position recruits individuals to receive money or packages and send them to their next destination. This individual is referred to as a “reshipper.” The reshipper keeps a portion of the money as the individual’s “inconvenience fee.” The Printing Representative position requires the applicant to have access to a printer with MICRtoner and Versa Check Platinum 2005 software. The employer will cover the expenses associated with purchasing the necessary equipment. The employee will be required to print and send business checks as well as personal checks intended for the company’s employees and clients.(U//LES) This is the first identified scheme which involves the employee printing fraudulent checks.(U//LES) Restrict distribution based on Law Enforcement Sensitive (LES) status. If you have relevant information concerning this incident, please notify the FBI contact.
