Dallas FBI Warns About Nigerian Scam Using Its Letterhead
February 27, Dallas Morning News – (Texas)
The Nigerian scammers are using a new tactic to trick folks out of their money: the Federal Bureau of Investigation or at least the FBI’s official-looking letterhead, featuring the Dallas bureau’s address in downtown Dallas. The real FBI warned Internet surfers Wednesday to be on the watch for slick-looking letters and e-mails with FBI letterhead. The latest scam mentions a purported gentleman at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport who needs someone with no terrorist or criminal background to help
transfer $10 million. All he needs is a bank account records to help
with the transfer. The letter is signed by a special agent in charge. “While most law-abiding citizens will recognize these letters as obvious forgeries, it is important to note that millions of dollars in losses are suffered by victims of these schemes each year,” the real FBI said in its statement Wednesday.
